Congratulations to the Saturn Performance Club who takes top honors in the SCCA's CENDIV Improved Touring A class, with Ellis Engineering Struts. Here is what they have to say in there press release!

A Saturn SC2 takes top honors in the SCCA's CENDIV Improved Touring A class. The Carrera/SPC/GF Racing Team's season may be over but the heady feel of victory is still with us. After top to bottom preparation solely by SPC volunteers, we managed to score a victory in our maiden race. Immediately backing that up with 3 more victories and two second place finishes allowed us to finish at the top of the CENDIV points race for the 2003 season. Another first for a Saturn in the CENDIV ITA world. Racing a Saturn in Improved Touring is no easy feat, as others who do so will attest. Racing and winning 4 times and taking 2nd place twice over the course of our team's first season is an accomplishment that any multi-car team would be happy with. Our single car entry has managed to tally this fantastic record through the hard work, dedication, and preparation of all its team members and volunteers. Check out: SPC Racing for full details on the car and the SPC's Racing program.

Now it's time to thank our supporters:

Suspension products and help from Carrera Custom managed to keep us ahead of the pack. Next year look for the car to have a few more trick pieces from Carrera Custom which will make us even faster.

At Daytona

In O B'S own words

The struts you sent me worked great!  Daytona was a blast!
We qualified second but came home with two first place finishes and one dnf
In the third race we were hooked up and running great the car handled
beautifully I was 12 seconds ahead of the second place car (Kolin Aspergren)
who is piloting a very quick neon I was carving through all the damn spec
miata's I swear there was 40 of them when I was gaining on one more miata
going into the bus stop ( we were fast through there) as I closed within
three car lengths he turned into the chicane locking up the brakes and fish
tailing side to side ,
I had the choice of going straight into the tire wall at about 95 or hitting
the miata in the left front and
I chose the miata needless to say after that I really was not going any
where!
We will be back I was running 2:29's  and that's just as fast as the
national boys so I cant wait..
Your new struts are the best!!!!!
Thanks again Steve I really appreciate your help!

If you have any decals that you want on the car please send them I will
definitely spread the word

Valvoline Run-Offs

In Mike Kramer's own words

Alleluia, We Won! Mark it down. September 19, 2003. SCCA crowned a Saturn as a National Champion at the Valvoline Runoffs. Can you believe it? Can Sea Biscuit motor race. On a rainy Mid-Ohio morning fit more for ducks than fast cars, our No. 16 Panasonic Saturn led from start to finish in what was by far the most emotional victory in the eight years we've been doing this. A national championship has always been the goal. But taking our Saturn to the top this year against the best in the U.S. from BMW, Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Dodge etal seemed like the longest of long shots. It turned out a decision to race on slick Kumho tires even though water covered parts of the 2.25 mile Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course made all the difference. All but a half dozen others in the 40-car field opted for rain tires. I put my head down and ran as hard as I could. The Saturn skated like it was on ice for the first couple of laps. But as the track dried, our times improved while almost everybody else went slower. One full-course caution bunched the field. But in a couple of laps we were back to a five-second lead over the Neon of John Fernandez, Chrysler's racing czar. That's how it ended. Winning the race was a spine-tingling, thrill. But the biggest thrill came some 10 hours later when the chief technical inspector declared our car in total compliance with SCCA regulations. In the pitch dark of a cool Ohio night, that's when the victory became official. If you know anything about the SCCA impound and inspection process, you know why crew chief Tom Brandlehner and I hugged each other like long lost brothers. Under tight security, springs and struts, catalytic converter, electronics, cam shafts, gears, compression ratios, brakes and a couple of dozen other parts and pieces must be presented to inspectors. Teams do their own teardowns at the direction of SCCA. Believe it or not, Tom says he enjoyed it almost as much as the race. It's been several years since the car which won the SSC race went on to pass inspection. If anybody was happier than we were to get a clean bill of health, it was the SCCA. Our effort this year wouldn't have been possible without the support of Panasonic Automotive Systems, Kumho Tires, SPS, Carbotech Engineering, Ellis Engineering and Red Line Oil. This car has been rubbed on and supported by the best, that'd be the Brandelhner Brothers - Tom & John. Thanks to John Turney, Todd Sanders, my friends at the Saturn Media Center, my mom & dad - Ralph and Carol Kramer and my family - JJ, Alex & Joey.

Paul Young in a G-T3 Ford Probe finished 4 in his division. He was on his way to setting the fastest lap in Qualifying when he spun to avoid a slower car and hit the wall. Paul, his crew, and Steve Ellis all worked hard to repair the car and make the final warm-ups. There hard worked paid off as he was 4th fastest in the few laps he was able to run in the final warm-ups. However, bad luck was there again as a cracked wheel slowed him again as his front tire went flat. Steve Ellis made some final changes to the car's set-up for the race based on the final warm-up. Paul stared the race and moved up to third. He was patiently waiting for the right opportunity as his car was lighting fast when on lap 10 or 11 the car's handling went away and he finished 4th. After the race it was discovered that the sealant Hoosier tires put around the rim to seal the tires had gotten in to the tire bleeders on the front tires and let out the air and the tires bleed down to 14lbs.  Still a great weekend for Paul.

Stevan Davis set the fastest time in Formula V at the Valvoline Run-Offs using Ellis Engineered shocks all the way around. Originally he was 2nd fastest with Ellis Engineered shocks in the front with a Penske shock in the rear. After final practice Stevan Davis and Steven Ellis discussed the car's handling aspects and Steven Ellis Stevan's chassis Engineer decided to have the Penske shock revalved to his specs, after that the fastest time for a formula V was set.  Unfortunately due to car problems Stevan did not make the grid for the race.

OLD NEWS

Paul Young won the SCCA GT-2 National Championship equipped with Ellis Engineered Carrera shocks built specifically for his race car by Steven Ellis of Ellis Engineering

8/10/03

AT VIR Stevan Davis equipped with Ellis Engineered Carrera shocks built specifically for his race car by Steven Ellis of Ellis Engineering won the Championship again (SCCA Formula V) - the 4th time in the last 6 years - including the last 2.  Steve qualified on the pole and after a couple of laps of 'conflict', he was able to pull away to a comfortable lead which he held to the checker. Quite a fine finish to a pretty good season. 6 wins - including one at Mid Ohio - several 2nd place finishes and a couple of 3rd's. Now, we put our thoughts to the Runoffs®.

(7/11/2003)

Arlene Pittman at Kentucky Speedway rented a car for the weekend from Moss racing equipped with Ellis Engineered shocks and the car set up by Steven Ellis of Ellis Engineering.  Although racing with motor problems all weekend she got only 2 laps of practice (used only to trigger timer so she could make a qualifying run) and only 4 laps of practice after qualifying.  Definitely put on a show  down on horsepower and plagued by motor problems she used the draft and the excellent handling car to record the  fastest corner speeds of the day and to turn  consistently the 5th fastest times during the race. Although she was penalized one lap for pitting out of her pit stall she still managed a 16th place finish.

The checkered flag fell on Lap 18 and the Ellis Engineering/GF Racing/SPC #50 SC2 took its 2nd victory and 4th podium finish in 4 starts.  After undergoing a comprehensive winter buildup by members of the Saturn Performance Club and with the fine suspension components from Ellis Engineering, the car has become a top contender in the hotly contested SCCA Central Division points race.
The SPC would  like to thank all those who have volunteered their time to help prepare the car and crew for the weekend.  Additionally a big thanks to Ellis Engineering   http://www.sellisengineering.com

for making the best street and race suspension available for Saturns. Period.
After 2 great race weekends to start the season we will be taking a bit of a break and doing some more extensive chassis work. Next time out the car will be even faster, much to the dismay of our fellow ITA competitors.

Paul Young installed a set of Ellis Engineered Carrera Shocks on his GT-2 Ford Probe this past weekend and easily out distanced his completion for the win.

Paul said he ran the fastest laps he has ever run at this racetrack.

Stevan Davis installed a set of Ellis Engineered Carrera Shocks on the front of his Formula V race car at Road Atlanta and won the race.

Stevan stated his car has not felt this good in many years and was extremely happy with its handling characteristics and obviously his win

Jimmy Voyles at Friendship Speedway in NC. running Ellis Engineered Carrera Shocks was contending for the win moving up from his 9th starting position to third position and pressing the leaders for the win before a broken sway bar relegated him back to 8th.
